New Japan Pro Wrestling presents New Beginning in Osaka February 11, 2016 | Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium, Osaka, Japan
Sho Tanaka and Yohei Komatsu vs TenKoji (Satoshi Kojima and Hiroyoshi Tenzan) The veteran team of Kojima and Tenzan had the young lions under control in the early goings, tagging in and out to keep the fresh man in, but Tanaka was able to tag in Komatsu, who took control of Kojima, isolating him from his partner and wearing him down, but the strong fighting spirit of Kojima allowed him to fight back, sending Kamatsu into the corner and connecting with his trademark chops before tagging in Tenzan, who connected with a Mongolian Chop to Komatsu and a head butt to Tanaka. A groggy Komatsu stumbled towards Tenzan, attempting a shot, but he swung wildly and missed, allowing Tenzan to hit the Tenzan Tombstone Driver on Komatsu for the win. Winners: TenKoji (7:35)
CHAOS (YOSHI-HASHI, Tomohiro Ishii and Gedo) vs Bullet Club (The Young Bucks and Tama Tonga) The match was kicked off with YOSHI-HASHI and Tama Tonga circling each other, and after a lock up, Tonga had the advantage with YOSHI-HASHI down on the mat. Tonga was quick to get back up however and disrespect his opponent with a stomp to the back of the head, before motioning to Ishii and Gedo to "suck it". Matt Jackson was then tagged in, and the Bullet Club were in complete control.
Nick Jackson started to get cocky later in the match, whipping YOSHI-HASHI into his own corner to mock him, which proved to be quite a nonsensical idea, since it allowed Ishii to get the tag and come into the fray. "The Stone Pitbull" took out both Jacksons and Tonga with lariats, and a big forearm sent Matt out of the ring. As the Young Bucks, Tonga, YOSHI-HASHI and Gedo brawled on the outside, Ishii was the only one left in the ring, took a chance, and connected with a huge senton from the top rope to the outside, taking out everybody, even his CHAOS stablemates and possibly himself.
As the action got back inside the ring, Gedo and Tama Tonga were going at it, when Gedo connected with short jabs to Tonga's face, and the Complete Shot, but Cody Hall jumped up on the apron to distract the referee when Gedo went for the pin. This prompted Ishii to run at Hall, and take him out with a lariat. Back in the ring, the Young Bucks were unloading on Gedo, who managed to roll through and tag in Ishii. Both Bucks instantly went for superkicks, but Ishii was able to avoid both attempts, and come back at Nick with a kick to the gut followed by an Enzuiguri. Gedo and Tonga continued to brawl on the outside, as did YOSHI-HASHI and Nick Jackson. Ishii turned around and saw Matt up on the top rope, with Jackson attempting a moonsault, but Ishii caught him and hit the Ishii Driller for the win. Winners: CHAOS (14:09)
IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship KUSHIDA vs Matt Sydal As the camera panned around the crowd, you could see many children dressed as KUSHIDA, a testament to his popularity. Both men shook hands out of respect and went for the lock up early on, with KUSHIDA taking advantage with the side headlock, but Sydal sent him off into the ropes, jumped over with a leapfrog, and then fell onto his back, spreading his legs, allowing KUSHIDA to roll through them and jump onto the ropes for a springboard attempt, but Sydal was too quick and caught KUSHIDA with a dropkick as he came flying towards him. Sydal went for the cover, but the Champion kicked out at two.
After being worn down by Sydal for a considerable amount of time, KUSHIDA started to mount some offence again, connecting with forearms to the face, and finally a Buzzsaw Kick, knocking Sydal for a loop and out of the ring. The Champion then climbed to the top rope and connected with a huge senton, crashing into Sydal and the floor.
Back in the ring, Sydal was once again in the drivers seat, and hit the cradle suplex for two. Sydal got back up after the kick out and went for Here It Is, but KUSHIDA fought out of it and absolutely rocked Sydal with a rolling elbow. With Sydal basically out on his feet, KUSHIDA climbed to the top, but the challenger was playing possum and jumped up to the top rope himself, before launching KUSHIDA across the ring with the Sydal Special. With both men down, the referee started to count, but they were able to get up before he finished.
Both men were exchanging shots in the latter portion of the match, and Sydal got the upper hand after a jumping knee to the face and a hurricanrana planted KUSHIDA in the center of the ring. The "Reborn" superstar climbed to the top and attempted the Shooting Sydal Press, but KUSHIDA got the knees up and Sydal was visibly feeling the effects. After this, the challenger wasted no time in locking Sydal in the Hoverboard Lock to get the win and retain the Junior Heavyweight Championship. Winner: KUSHIDA (21:36)
IWGP Tag Team Championships GBH (Tomoaki Honma and Togi Makabe) vs Los Ingobernables De Japon (EVIL and Tetsuya Naito) Honma and Makabe did not seem to care for EVIL and Naito's antics at all, as made evident by Makabe blasting EVIL with a lariat as soon as the match began. The "Unchained King Kong" clubbed away on the "King Of Darkness" in the corner, with inner forearms to the side of the head and outer forearms to the jaw. As EVIL fell out of the corner and onto his hands and knees, Makabe showed him the middle finger, and then threw him overhead with a briefing German suplex, but got only a count of two, as Naito pulled EVIL out of the ring. As EVIL tried to regain his composure, Makabe came to the outside to bring him back in the ring, but Naito was there to stop him. As Naito and EVIL attacked Makabe, Honma came running towards Naito and took him down with a flying Kokeshi, allowing Makabe to get EVIL back in the ring and the match to continue.
Further into the match, momentum had been shifted between both teams, with all four men getting offence in, but a major turning point in the match came when Naito tagged himself in and rocked Honma with a flying forearm. Naito, his usual, calm self, trapped Honma in a leg scissors, using his legs to try and choke the life out of Honma. As Naito had him trapped in the hold, he casually leaned back and did his signature pose, showing that he was not sweating the champions at all. Honma eventually managed to escape the hold and fire off rights and lefts, before running into the ropes and attempting another flying Kokeshi, but Naito caught him and spiked him right on his head with a DDT. Naito then bought an almost unconscious Honma over to his corner, arched Honma's back over his knee, and tagged in EVIL who dropped a big elbow across the chest of the Champion. EVIL went for the cover, but Honma kicked out.
Los Ingobernables did not relenquish control for the better part of the match, isolating Honma and keeping him from tagging his partner, making it clear they were out for revenge after Honma and Makabe defeated them in the finals of the World Tag League to earn the opportunity to win the Tag Team Championships. Honma, using the crowd to will him on, hit EVIL with elbows to the gut, followed by a Crazy Elbow, and a Kokeshi, before getting the tag to his fresher partner, Makabe, who had King Kong Lariats for both Naito and EVIL. Naito got in Togi's face, but the "Unchained King Kong" just threw him out of the ring and focused his attention on the legal man, EVIL. Makabe set him up for another King Kong Lariat, but the "King Of Darkness" countered it into his trademark STO. EVIL went for the cover, but it was broken up by a top rope Kokeshi from Honma. Honma ran into the ropes and went for another Kokeshi, but was unsuccessful this time, as EVIL avoided it. Honma was successful however in avoiding the now legal Naito's attempted missile dropkick and hit him with a Piledriver. Honma then climbed to the top rope and hit the Kokeshi, before tagging in Makabe who hit the King Kong Knee Drop to seal the win and retain. Winners: G.B.H (23:59)
Laughter7 (Katsuyori Shibata and Kazushi Sakuraba) vs Hiroshi Tanahashi and Michael Elgin Looking to bounce back after failing to defeat Kazuchika Okada and capture the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 10, Hiroshi Tanahashi and newfound friend Michael Elgin were met with the challenge of two of the toughest wrestlers in all of NJPW, mixed martial arts legend Kazushi Sakuraba and the always violent Katsuyori Shibata. Elgin and Shibata started things off, exchanging shots with each other, with Shibata prevailing and backing off into the ropes, but Elgin threw him overhead with a belly to belly as he rebounded. Elgin then took control of the NEVER Openweight Champion early on, keeping him on the mat and trading tags with Tanahashi.
Later in the match, Sakuraba had gotten into the match and was using his educated feet to keep Tanahashi at bay, and attempted a Sakuraba Lock, but the High Flying Star got his foot on the bottom rope before he could fully lock it in. Saku got back up and tagged in Shibata, who ran at Tanahashi with an attempted kick to the midsection, but it was countered into a dragon screw by Tanahashi. Shibata started to favour his leg, and Hiroshi saw it, beginning to pinpoint his attack on the lower knee and shin of Shibata, dropping elbows and knees on it, possibly looking to weaken it for the cloverleaf. Shibata got up and started to fight back, rocking Tanahashi with forearms and a big kick to the back of the head, dropping Tanahashi into a seated position, then connecting with a free kick and a goal kick before going for the cover, but Elgin broke it up, and then dropped Shibata with a powerbomb.
In the very late goings of the match, Sakuraba and Elgin were going at it in the ring. Saku ducked the backfist attempted from Elgin and connected with a rolling sole butt to the head, and then tagged in Shibata, who rocked Elgin with a jumping knee, a high kick, and finally a running single leg dropkick, taking "Big Mike" down. As Elgin sat up, Shibata ran at him and went for the PK, but Elgin avoided it and got back up to his feet. Shibata attempted another kick to the head, but Elgin avoided that too, and then caught him and dropped him with the Burning Hammer, and as Tanahashi took Sakuraba out on the outside with a High Fly Flow, Elgin got the pinfall over the NEVER Openweight Champion. Winners: Michael Elgin and Hiroshi Tanahashi (24:28)
IWGP Intercontinental Championship Kenny Omega vs Shinsuke Nakamura Nakamura came out to loud cheers from the fans, with flowers and streamers being thrown at him all the way down to the ring. Even as the match began, "The King Of Strong Style" was still being showered in streamers. Once the fans had finished, Nakamura and Omega started to face off. They circled each other, and Omega went for the cheap shot, but Nakamura was one step ahead, and hit Omega with a kick to the gut and a shin to the back of the head, forcing "The Cleaner" into retreat on the outside. With his stable mates, Omega started to mock Nakamura, aiming a finger gun at him and copying Nakamura's signature taunt. Shinsuke bought the fight to Omega, however, rolling to the outside and taking out not just Omega but The Young Bucks too.
Later in the match, back inside the ring, Omega had shifted momentum in his favour, and had Nakamura down in the corner. Omega continued to mock the Intercontinental Champion, but Nakamura had had enough by this point, and punted Omega in the knee and connected with the Boma Ye, but the Young Bucks dragged Omega outside the ring before Nakamura could get the cover. Shinsuke then got to the outside and took both Young Bucks out with running knee strikes, before Red Shoes sent them to the back. With Omega down on the apron, Nakamura jumped and connected with a guillotine Boma Ye, knocking the challenger loopy.
In the latter goings of the match, Shinsuke and Omega were giving each other everything they had left. It became clear however that Nakamura had more left in the tank, as he prevailed in the strike exchange and hit Omega with a jumping forearm and a standing Boma Ye to knock Omega down. Nakamura then got in position in the corner, ready for the final Boma Ye, but Omega grabbed the Intercontinental Title, causing Red Shoes to intervene and take it off of him. However, whilst the referee's back was turned, Omega connected with a low blow to Nakamura, before rolling him up to steal the victory and become the new Intercontinental Champion, ending Shinsuke's reign.
After the match ended, Nakamura was left standing in the ring, on his own. The fans once again began throwing flowers and streamers at him, before confetti was shot in from the ceilings and Shinsuke stood and basked in the fans for a moment, and with tears in his eyes, he grabbed a microphone.
"Watashi wa ima 13-nenkan, shin Nihon ni sa rete imasu. Anata wa watashi ni watashi ga kesshite wasurenaidarou omoide o ataete imasu. Watashi no soba ni tatte, watashi o sapōto shite itadaki arigatōgozaimasu. Watashi wa anata ni subete o aishi, watashi wa yakusoku, watashi wa modotte kimasu. Arigatō. YeaOh!"
(I have been in New Japan for thirteen years now. You have given me memories I will never forget. Thank you for standing by me and supporting me. I love you all and I promise, I will be back. Thank you. YeaOh!")
Nakamura was joined in the ring by his close friends and CHAOS stablemates, Tomohiro Ishii, YOSHI-HASHI, Toru Yano, Gedo and Kazushi Sakuraba. All 5 men said their goodbyes to a tearful King Of Strong Style, as the fans gave him a standing ovation and chanted "Nakamura". Winner: Kenny Omega (29:22)
IWGP Heavyweight Championship Kazuchika Okada vs Hirooki Goto With the Osaka crowd firmly behind him, Hirooki Goto looked to finally gain the Championship that has eluded him his entire career; the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Goto was ready to finally prove that he could win the big one and silence all the doubters, and he made it clear that he meat business going in. The challenger's confidence had to be high, knowing that he'd already beaten Okada in last year's G1 Climax tournament and that all he'd have to do was the exact same thing again to become IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Goto got in control of the match early on, taking Okada down to the mat after the collar and elbow tie up and immediately trapping Okada in a head scissor and raining down elbow shots on the Champion's forehead. Okada tried to get back up, but Goto refused to release the hold, leaving the Champion no choice but to expend his energy and crawl to the ropes. Okada got up to his feet and ran towards Goto, but the challenger threw him down with a scoop power slam and immediately went back to the head and neck, looking to soften it up for the Ushigoroshi. Goto locked in a number of different holds to try and wear the challenger down.
Okada had fought his way back into the match and by the halfway point, Goto was on the ropes. Okada hit the challenger with a big dropkick, and as Goto bounced off the ropes, threw him overhead with a bridging German suplex for the two count. The "Rainmaker" carried on his offense, climbing to the top and crushing Goto's chest with the flying elbow, before calling for the Rainmaker itself. Okada got Goto in position, but the challenger avoided it and instead took the Champion down with a Tokko Lariat.
Goto was in control towards the end, rocking Okada with rights and lefts to the dismay of Gedo and dumping him on his head with a brainbuster, further weakening the head and shoulders of the champ. Goto lifted Okada back up and went for the Shouten Kai, but Okada got back down and hit Goto with a bridging Northern Lights suplex, but only got two. Both men then stayed on the mat for Red Shoes' nine count, before getting back up and giving each other everything they had left. Exchanging shots, Goto started to send Okada off into the ropes, and when he stumbled forward, hit the Shouten Kai! Goto went for the pin but Okada was able to kick out at 2.9, just barely popping the shoulder up.
Right before the end, Goto was calling for a second Shouten. Okada got back up, and Goto lifted him in the air, but Okada dropped down behind him, grabbed him by the waist and hit the Rainmaker, before picking Goto up a second time and hitting another Rainmaker, followed by a third to get the victory and retain his title. Winner: Kazuchika Okada (32:47)
